Something Worth Knowing - RBI Guidelines.

*IMPORTANT*
Dear All,

Because of writing or unwanted signatures on Indian currency notes, Indian Government loses Rs 2,638 crores each year.

Please refrain from writing anything on currency notes as then they cannot be used for STD transactions.
e.g.: We don't find written notes in ATM.

When will we learn to value & respect our own currency??

Have you ever seen a Dollar bill or a Pound with anything written on it?

Nothing is so damn important to be written on a currency note!

RBI RULE FROM 1st JANUARY 2014: ANY BANK WILL NOT ACCEPT ANYTHING WRITTEN ON NOTES. YOU CANNOT DEPOSIT SUCH NOTES IN BANK.

BY ORDER,
RBI

  1. This is a Great Post..In India People have very bad habit of writing on notes..They never get the fact that time to time RBI have to replace such notes...and replacing notes with new ones in indeed a very costly process and if ever someone will know that...

    1. No!! I didn't create the image! :P If at all I had, I wouldn't possess the right to write this post :P
Yes, I suppose these are the REAL guidelines. I just wish they are stringent this time. So that people don't take it lightly.

  3. This news seems to fake. Although it has featured in a few reputed newspaper, this is something affecting entire Indian population and RBI cannot expect everybody to exchange their 'written-over' notes within a short span of 2 months as every second note of any denomination is written over. Next comes the point that nowhere in the news is cited the link of RBI ordinance. I searched the RBI site and found nothing. I have even dropped RBI a mail inquiring news' veracity and will update here as soon as I get a reply.

  4. Aayesha kindly provide an official source or ruling that supports your blog. When you say 'by Order RBI', there should be a circular regarding the dis-continuation of written currency.

    1. Rajat, I would say, whether circular is present or not, we ALL should refrain from writing on notes. We don't need circulars for that!

Although this is a circular for the banks, I think it should be followed at individual level too; like avoid stapling and writing on notes.

  6. Good post..but I hope its not implemented this soon on such a short notice. There are millions of poor people, daily wage earners, beggars etc who dont have a bank account, which will turn out to be a disaster for them, the money that they possess will turn out valueless, thus government looses thousands of crores. This is one of the many side effects that will come out as a result of this implementation on such short notice . However we should refrain from making our currency dirty..aise bhi humari currency bht niche gir rahi hai :p
