Nano Fiction 9 : Marital Rape

"Is a wife merely body parts?" I ask.

What compels a wife to continue living with her husband who is a sex-maniac? What kind of man commits such atrocious acts on his wife, almost daily? How does he get away with this brutality? Is it because marital rape is not a criminal offence, compared to one committed on an outsider? Is marriage for such depraved men a license to rape because of the 'implied consent' which comes with wedlock?

Wonder on basic tenets of common sense, how does a cruel, inhuman marriage remain sacred? What is sacrosanct about it?

In cases of sexual violence in marriage, the woman is a victim. She is degraded, humiliated and made to feel unwanted.

If a marriage is still continuing, it is because she is submitting to it, she is weak, poor, and afraid, has children, is dependent, roofless, and reconciled to fate. She is also often ignorant of the legal help available.

It's time we empower our women, to fight against anything that harms and humiliates them - even if that comes under a sacrosanct relation called 'marriage'. A woman does not have to submit to whatever has been thrown at her. She and only she, can save herself.

Narrative Poetry: Mysterious Lovers

Recently, in discussions with my friends, after hearing stories around, I feel, we are becoming too casual with our relationships these days. I think this trend is mainly because, people are easily replaceable these days. They are less tolerant towards each other. Not many people bother to save a relationship, as they have options ready too soon. With breakups and divorce rates rising high, I wonder where are we heading to. All this got me inspired to write a narrative poetry - a poem that tells a tale, without any rhyme.

At times I do find men less compassionate, cold and shallow. I do not categorize all under the same roof, but why men? Can't you manage to be a bit softer and less harsh? Women love a bit differently, I believe, a bit selflessly. And absolutely no one, except the man himself, can mess her love for him.

*****************************************

She wonders, why people leave mysteriously,
Without questions, answers or clarifications,
One day, they are no longer there,
Just a void.

Time suspends,
Wounds stay un-mended,
No ending, no goodbye,
You are left to wonder, why?
Why isn't life always fair?

Waking up with a heavy head every morning , is a routine now,
"Will this depression and grief ever end?" she thinks.
"Has he ever imagined the pain he left me in?
How could he ever do this to me?"
Her head tells her,
"No, mysterious lovers  don't show concern. They just leave."

He knows me enough -
To imagine a girl sitting on her bedroom floor,
Dry-heaving, her body convulsing at failed attempts to silence her sobs,
Countless silent breakdowns so that no one can hear,
Every day is a fight with her own self,
To know the unsaid things,
To find the mystery behind it all.
"But he doesn't know me well yet," now it feels.

Silence kills,
"Why is he a man of few words?
I talk so much, why doesn't he too?
I expected him to be naked with his words when with me,
He carries so much within, no uttering anything,
Had he fought with me, it would have been way better,
Because communication bridges distance.
Why are people so shallow and cold?
Why are relationships an ordeal sometimes?
Why isn't loyalty and love paid back with loyalty and love?"

Sometimes she wants him to be punished,
For giving up on her and for his arrogant behavior,
And sometimes she wants to just go, find him, hug him and cry together for hours,
And protect him from everything harsh.

At last, she questioned herself lifelessly,
"Do you love him?"
"Yes", that inner voice claimed.
"Maybe, he deserves someone better than you.
You are not good enough for him. God knows the best. Let him go.
The harder you will try to hold on, the more he will slip away."
Momentarily she often finds peace with the reply.

She loved him so much to always want his good, respect his decisions,
Even if that wronged her own self.
He is a good person,
I am sure while he is burning, he is giving light to others,
just like a candle does.

"Anger carries a person in your mind forever,
Love carries a person in your prayers forever," her mother taught.
"Our love, care and prayers are always with the ones we choose to love only from a distance,
You cannot hold on to someone who doesn't want to stay.
Some people make goodbye difficult, but sometimes,
You come together only to be separated."
She drowned herself into these facts each day,
Trying to find solace.

Nano Fiction 8 : Cold

Life makes me wonder, why some people are so cold and disassociated from emotions? What makes them so?

And listening to "Agar Tum Saath Ho" from Tamasha on repeat mode puts me in chronic thinking mode again and again. And stories are bound to cook in your head; sharing one such fiction.

The video of this song somehow gives me goose bumps. Such a heart breaking song it is! It makes me feel the love and the pain through Deepika's desperate attempt to hold on to her love for Ranbir, his disinterest and their chemistry.

Book Review #51: The Forbidden Line

I was so excited to read this book. Whenever a blogger friend publishes a book, I feel intensely proud of the blogging fraternity and I also feel motivated.

I have followed Mayank Kashyap's blog 'Snappy Thoughts' for a while now and I enjoyed reading him.

This is the debut novel of Mayank Kashyap. I loved the title, its trailer and also the catchy book jacket.

This book is a quick read. A rollercoaster ride of emotions, you can cry one moment and as you flip the page you're forced to smile on the next one.

The story has a good plot and is well written. The characterization is commendable. It has all the ingredients to be a 'bestseller'.

Mayank Kashyap has done a very good job of narrating the story in a way that intrigues the readers. The writing is exceptionally smooth and never boring.

The book has so much to offer more than just romance. The message that - you have to push yourself beyond the forbidden lines without fears or doubts and find yourself and why you were brought into this world is a takeaway for the readers.

There are some spelling mistakes in the book like on page no. 80 and 84 the spelling of ‘post mortem’ is written as ‘post modem’ , on page no. 97 author had written ‘Mon’ instead of ‘Mom’. Such kind of bloopers and punctuation errors should be taken care of to make the book flawless.

As I conclude this review, I wish to let my readers know that, Mayank is a gifted writer who writes with all his heart.

I recommend this book to everyone who wants to do something in life.

Thank you so much for sending over the book, Mayank!

Rating: 3/5

Nano Fiction 7 : Author

Recently, my blogger friends, Preethi Venugopala and Mayank Kashyap published their books.

This Nano Fiction inspires me to start re-writing the book I started way back in 2013 and haven't touched it since then.

It’s much harder to write a book than people think. Because the words never come out the way they sounded in your head. And it takes a long time to get those words out.

A  novelist creates a world for the reader. Then the reader creates a world for the novelist. The respect is priceless.

Isolating.  Exhilarating.  Absorbing.  Depressing.  Isolating.  Urgent, pressured and stressful. Exciting.  Terrifying.  Profoundly saddening.  Challenging.

Being an author is all this, but totally worth it. Having your name in print is profoundly amazing! Hope this motivates me and others to never quit writing.

Happy reading.

Nano Fiction 6 : Love Heals

Hello readers!

Today, I am verrrryyyy happy!

I had an amazing defence for my Master's thesis. Officially, MTech is over. Now, PhD! *hides* because I want a 'Dr.' ahead of my name. THAT'S IT!

One and a half hour. 102 slides presentation. External examiner. Grilling session. But it's all done.

Ahhhhh *loud scream* *happy dance*

I would like to thank soooo many supportive people who were with me in this amazing journey and always had faith in me!

I am grateful to SAMEER, IIT Bombay for my MTech internship and S.P.I.T for an amazing exposure to research!

Thank you Universe for all the positive vibes.

Just a thought - "Life is a balance sheet and in the end there always is profit and everything tallies."

A romantic Nano Fiction for today, because today I am happy and not in a Devdas-writer-mood or not in killing-a-character-mood today. Not today! :D

Happy reading. Do leave your precious comments below!

.. And In Time, This Too Shall Pass

This is totally a random poem. I am unsure if I should call it a poem even! But it randomly got penned in my 'notes' last night. I thought to share it on my blog today, as it goes with the theme of the next IndiSpire section.

We often get pensive when something goes terribly wrong in our lives. But we never should forget, "This too shall pass". Do good, it will come back to you. Sometimes the more you try to get a grip of the situation, you feel in the pit of your stomach like you're swimming and you want to rest your feet on something solid - but the water's deeper and there's nothing that can stabilize you there. It is okay to not know everything now. Remember your pain is changing you, make sure it changes you for your good.

And don't worry about your heart. It isn't so delicate. It has the stamina to last for a lifetime, trust me. No bone there to break, securely wrapped in a set of ribs, your heart is built to take a punch and still be strong enough!

So here's what I penned down last night very spontaneously after a long session of chronic thinking. It surely leaves me inspired and I look forward to life, each day. Ah, my blog link spells it too "aayeshashewholives" *wide grin* -

"Inner musings,
Inky darkness,
Somber night,
Reflects my mood,
Not everything lasts forever,
Neither the good times, nor the bad times,
And in time, this too shall pass,
Lesson learnt."
